Mustafa Yaasin Sheik

Biography

Mustafa Y. Sheik has been Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA) of the Federal Republic of Somalia since November 2022. The NCA regulates telecommunications, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. He has more than 15 years of management and leadership experience in the public and private sectors.
He has represented Somalia in ITU processes, including the International Advisory Body for Submarine Cable Resilience. Before becoming Director General, he was Deputy Director General and a member of the NCA’s Board of Directors. From 2018 to 2021 he was Executive Director of the Somalia Network Information Centre (SONIC), the registry operator for the .so domain. Before that, he was Senior Policy Advisor at the Ministry of Communications and Technology. He is a PhD candidate in Digital Economy at the Transport and Telecommunication Institute in Riga.
