H.E. Greg Michelier
Biography
Greg Michelier serves as Ambassador-at-Large for Technology and Artificial Intelligence for the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. A technologist, entrepreneur, and builder, he brings more than two decades of experience in digital infrastructure and enterprise technology across The Bahamas, the Caribbean, and international markets. He studied Political Science at the University of Ottawa and earned an LLB from the University of Buckingham, pairing legal training with technical expertise.
Before entering public service, he built and led a portfolio of technology companies and was a hands-on pioneer in applied AI, architecting and deploying platforms and intelligent agents that automate complex workflows. That builder’s command of software development, AI engineering, and systems integration grounds his policy work in real-world implementation, not theory alone.
He leads The Bahamas’ international technology and AI agenda across the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Innovation and National Development, with a mandate spanning AI governance, digital diplomacy, and sovereign data policy. He helped shape national policy commitments, including a planned AI Governance Act, a National AI Commission, a National Digital ID, and strengthened data protection.
His governing philosophy, “sovereign first, not sovereign only,” reflects his conviction that small island developing states can lead, not merely adopt, in the age of artificial intelligence. He represents The Bahamas in global forums on AI governance and digital cooperation, engaging multilateral institutions, governments, and technology leaders to help shape the rules of the emerging digital order.
He is also committed to community and youth empowerment, with philanthropy spanning education, animal welfare, and youth sports.
