Biography
Akiko Murakami is Executive Director of the Japan AI Safety Institute (J-AISI), a post she has held since 2024. She is also Group Chief Data Officer and Executive Vice President of Sompo Holdings, a role she took up in 2025.
She began her career at IBM Japan’s Research Laboratory in 1999 and moved to IBM Japan’s Software Development Laboratory in 2016. In 2021 she joined Sompo Japan Insurance as Executive Officer, Chief Data Officer and General Manager of the Data-Driven Management Promotion Department, where she has led the modernization of property and casualty insurance operations through digital tools and AI.
