H.E. Olavo Correia

Biography

Olavo Correia is a Cape Verdean economist and politician who served in the government of Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva from April 2016 until June 2026. He joined as Minister of Finance and Business Development, oversaw the digital economy portfolio from 2018, and was appointed Deputy Prime Minister in 2021. His term ended when a new government led by Francisco Carvalho took office on 19 June 2026 following the May 2026 parliamentary election.

Born in Praia in 1967, he studied economics in Berlin. He began his career at the Bank of Cape Verde, became Director General of the Treasury in 1997 and later a Secretary of State for Finance, and was Governor of the Bank of Cape Verde from 1999 to 2003. He later was managing director of Banco Montepio Geral Cabo Verde. In 2022 he was elected President of the Board of Governors of the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development.
