Dr. Mario Torres Jarrín

Since December 2025, Dr. Mario Torres Jarrín has served as Director of the European Institute of International Studies (EIIS) in Stockholm, Sweden.

Previously, he held senior leadership roles at the Pontifical University of Salamanca (Spain), including Director of the Institute of European Studies and Human Rights, Director of the International Projects Office, and Director of International Relations (January 2020 – July 2025).

Dr. Torres Jarrín has built a strong academic career across leading European institutions. He served as Lecturer–Associate Researcher at Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (Germany) (2018–2020) and at Stockholm University (Sweden) (2010–2018). He was Director of EIIS from 2008 to 2021, holding key roles including Global Ibero-America Chair, EU–LAC Relations Chair, and Chair in International Relations and Diplomacy. He also served as Executive Secretary of the IBERO-EURO-AMERICA Universities Consortium.

He has served as Visiting Professor at Copenhagen Business School (Denmark), the University Institute of Lisbon (Portugal), the University of Economics and Anglo-American University (Czech Republic), and diplomatic academies across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

He has secured six major international research projects—five funded by the Jean Monnet/Erasmus+ Programme and one by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. His research focuses on EU diplomacy, EU–LAC relations, and global governance.

Dr. Torres Jarrín is an active member of international scientific committees and academic councils, contributing to G20, EU, and EU–LAC Academic Forum initiatives. He is affiliated with the LAC Center at Anglo-American University (Czech Republic), the Center for International Studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina, and the Research Center for International Private Law at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil).

He has advised several governments and participated as expert in high-level forums including the United Nations, G20, WTO, OECD, European Commission, European Parliament, UNESCO, SEGIB, CELAC, and SELA. His work has been published in more than 16 countries: Sweden, Germany, the United States, France, Switzerland, Italy, Brazil, Spain, Belgium, Peru, Mexico, Chile, Saudi Arabia, India, and South Africa.

Dr. Torres Jarrín completed his studies at the University of Salamanca (Spain): Doctor of History, Master’s in European Union Studies, and Business Studies.
